Graduation

Standard

It’s that time of the year when the students get to celebrate their summer freedom. For some they will only have two to three months of fun in the sun before they must return to school in the fall. For others it means an end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. Those who have gone through any graduation will know, whether it’s graduating from grade school to college.

For me, this month has been about two graduations. One for my cousin Michelle who is graduating from high school and for my boyfriend’s sister Claire, who is graduating from SFU (Simon Fraser University). I didn’t get a chance to make a card for Michelle, but I did make one for Claire. I actually used Katherine Pritchard’s design for this card and changed the colours to the school colours.

Some people have asked me how i created the “V” so nicely… You can’t really see the lines in the picture well, but I used strips and laid them on top of each other to create the ‘V’ and just cut off the excess at the ends.  You have to be more careful doing the white V.  I used temporary tape to position it first then glued them down after I found the right place.

To make the Tassel on the hat, you just need to tie a Knot at the top of two strips of 5/8″ grossgrain ribbon.  Carefully cut along the edge of the ribbon to break the seal to the very top of your knot, You don’t have to cut the edge off if you don’t want to, I didn’t.  after you’ve done both sides for both stripes of ribbon you then fray the ribbon by pulling it apart.
